About: European Museum of Modern Art
The European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) is based in an old palace that was rebuilt in 1791 by a textile merchant in the La Ribera neighborhood, very close to the Picasso Museum in Barcelona.
When, in the mid-nineteenth century, Calle de la Princesa was opened to connect the old town with the Castell dels Tres Dragons in Ciutadella Park, the palace was divided into two parts, on both sides of the street.
The MEAM presents its own collections, mostly of figurative and realistic works, structured in three categories: contemporary art of the 21st century, modern sculpture of the 20th century, and Catalan sculpture of the 20th century, as well as other temporary exhibitions.
